showered with love

My sweet friend Trish threw me a baby shower this past weekend. Food, games and friends -- it was a great time with some of my favorite people.

And baby got spoiled -- these are just a few of the cute outfits he received. He's going to be well-dressed. =)

This was Brenna and Anna's first time at a baby shower. They were excited.

Grand Canyon

Monday we spent at the Grand Canyon. "Grand" doesn't even come close to describing it. For folks who've never been there, it's hard to explain its vastness. I don't think pictures could ever do it justice. One day, I'd love to take one of the helicopter tours just to try to grasp the scope of how large it is.

Easter Sunday

On our trip, we spent Easter seeing some of God's amazing work. We drove through Sedona, which is just GORGEOUS.

We took some family pictures which would have turned out so much better if the wind hadn't been so fierce. =)

I really enjoyed Sedona. It's a great little town.

Phoenix and friends

Saturday morning after breakfast, we drove to meet friends at the World Wildlife Zoo . They are a homeschooling family we used to spend a lot of time with. They moved to Phoenix last fall so it was really nice to see them again.

Feeding the giraffes was a fun treat:

This zoo has a lot of reptiles and very colorful birds:

Also, a petting zoo where the goats kept trying to eat everyone's clothing.

We went to lunch afterwards with our friends and then said goodbye. We spent a little time back at the hotel, letting the kids swim. The pool was outside and heated so it felt wonderful. Zane kept pointing way up to the tops of the palm trees. He seemed fascinated by them.

For dinner, we headed down to a fun little area called Old Town Tempe. It reminded us a bit of downtown Denver. We walked around seeing the sights and had a great dinner.

Better late than never

So I brought home an unexpected souvenir from our trip -- a horrible cough. Between that and morning-afternoon-evening sickness I've been down for the count.

Today I finally feel a bit better so I'm going to try to get caught up on our trip. I'm so far behind on Project 365, I doubt I'll ever catch up with that.

We left on Thursday, the first day of Spring. The whole day was spent driving. We finally pulled into Tucson, AZ about 10:30 pm. 18 hours of driving. Ugh. But the kids did super.

Friday morning we got up early and had the hotel's free breakfast. We had tickets to the Rockies spring training game so we headed to the field. We got there pretty early so we went to the adjacent park to kill some time. Turned out it backed up to the Rockies practice fields. So the kids were able to watch them practice and the players tossed a baseball over the fence to each of our kids.

Then we just lazed around the park and walked around the lake.

You can see Zane hugging the trash can in the background -- I don't know. =)

When it was time, we headed back to the baseball field. The stands started out nice and empty:

But they sure didn't stay that way. It ended up being a sold out game against the Cubs. We met people there from Chicago, Denver and even a couple down from Anchorage, Alaska.

The weather was gorgeous -- 80 degrees -- but with not a cloud in the sky it got pretty hot. So we ended up taking Zane out of the sun onto the concourse and finished the game there.

It was really fun for us to see where the Rockies play during training. And Tucson was just beautiful. The kids were amazed at the fact that palm trees and cactus can live side by side.

After the game, we drove up to Phoenix.
