A Roman feast

To wrap up our study on Ancient Rome, my teacher's manual suggested a Roman feast. With a busy schedule and then Scott being out of town, it kept being put off. But we finally managed it this week.

Some of the suggested foods were various kinds of meat. We chose chicken. Simpler than one meal I read about: stuffing a chicken inside of a duck, then the duck inside a goose, then the goose inside a pig, then the pig inside a cow, and cook it all together. Ummm.....ICK!

We also made artichokes, which I realized my kids had never tried. They were skeptical at first but most of them ended up really liking them. We also had grapes and made a honey omelet as suggested in one book -- The Roman Empire. For dessert, we made an "Authentic Roman Bread Dessert", which was basically milk-soaked bread fried in olive oil and served with honey. Grape juice was the beverage.

Brenna was the only one to want to dress up.

We tried to eat in the traditional reclining manner but it wasn't easy.

It was a fun wrap-up. I'm glad we found time to fit it in.

Sounds like a fun celebration. Love the pictures of everyone eating while reclining. :)

Robin, what a great time, and wonderful that it was something all of the kids could enjoy so much! Brenna looks darling.
