Memorial weekend
I hope you all had a great Memorial weekend! We are usually in the mountains visiting my parents, but this year they are remodeling their kitchen so we stayed home. =)
I'm glad we did. We got some projects done around home that have been on my todo list for awhile.
Saturday we hit a couple community garage sales, then visited a garden center for flowers and seeds to plant. In the evening was church and a quick stop at the store.
Sunday was work day. Scott's brother Tony came over and they worked on the dog run all day. Currently our two dogs have the run of the whole backyard but we'd like to actually have that green stuff again -- what's it called? Oh yeah -- grass. LOL So they will have a nice-sized dog run for when we're not home. We also bought a pool last year that I know the kids would love for us to set up.

Meanwhile, I planted flowers and seeds. I've not had much luck in the front of the house before but I'm trying a new area that gets more sun. Wish me luck!
My nieces and nephew were over also and the kids had a great time playing all day long.

Today was a day to relax and have fun. I'm glad we didn't have outdoor plans as it rained most the day. We decided to take the kids bowling and then to CiCi's Pizza for lunch.

And now on to a new week!

Garage sale bargains
Yesterday we got up bright and early and went to some area garage sales.
This is what we came home with:
Not pictured is a small desk for Brenna's room. She got a sewing machine for her birthday but hasn't had anything to put it on. The white dresser and bookcase are for her room also.
I got the sandbox and little "swingset" for Zane and the new baby. I think Zane likes it. =)
The best part is all of it was only $50. Now if only I could find dressers for the boys' rooms...

Railroad Museum
Our homeschool field trip last week was to the Colorado Railroad Museum. Our tour guides were incredible. Very knowledgeable, and patient even with the youngest and rowdiest of the group.
We got to go inside a good amount of the trains there. And though it wasn't part of the tour, they snuck us on what they call the "Galloping Goose" for a ride.
Some of the old passenger trains were just beautiful inside. Notice the red chairs and chandeleirs.
We've visited this museum before during one of their "Thomas" events. But I have to say this was much, much nicer. There were only a couple other small groups there and we had all the time we needed to explore.

Ah, summer!
We have officially finished school for this year and begun summer vacation. It was a little earlier than usual, but we'll be starting back earlier in August since we'll need to take some time off after the baby comes in October.
I bought a kiddie pool for Aiden and Zane to enjoy. We filled it up yesterday and Aiden was so excited. Zane was fine as long as he was standing -- he did not care for the sitting part. =)

Project 365 - Day 113
Conner has been saving his money for months now. Mainly from babysitting and his allowance. Saturday he got a boost from a check he received for working with a church friend of ours.
What has he been saving so hard for?

And IPOD Touch.
This boy is so far ahead of me electronically. =)

for the birds
The kids have been spending a lot of time each day watching the birds out the window. A couple years ago Chase and my dad built some great birdhouses and they've gotten a lot of use. This poor double-decker is losing its roof. We were worried about the babies in there if it fell but it's hanging on and they are getting pretty big so I think they'll be okay. Chase made some new birdhouses recently so we'll be replacing this one as soon as the babies are grown and gone.
Zane loves watching the birds. He will stand at the window for quite a long time.

AWANA awards
It's the end of another AWANA year. Aiden finished with Cubbies and next year will be in Sparks. He was SO proud of his awards:
